The FIRE movement which stand for “Financial Freedom, Retire Early” is a define on Wikipedia as a lifestyle movement whose goal is financial independence and retiring early. This sort of movement is popular amongst the millennials and a lot of people are joining through information sharing platforms such as blogs, youtube videos as well ass other social media tools.
For the longest of time I have always been interested in getting knowledge and becoming better at money management. Although not what drove me to become a chartered accountant, this has helped me to gain the basic understanding of money matters which I believe is crucial on this journey.
Although not yet there, I like to believe that if I continue on the path that I am now, I am not far from achieving that milestone. Since going on this journey, I have not really been open about my views on money, not vocal about certain financial decisions and money principles I live by but I realized playing small is not going to let me live my purpose.
Over 2 years ago, I did a course in transformation leadership, and part of the tasks which we had to do was write out our purpose statements. This was a statement that summarized who you are and what you believe God called you for . It is that statement that will help you formulate those steps that will enable you to live out that purpose. As the week passed on that camp/training, I eventually came to the realization that I would like to help the youth through equipping them with knowledge that will enable them to attain financial independence and food sustainability.
After that camp, I have been doing along of planning, writing and dreaming but not really much of action until the end of 2018. That is when I started blogging. Created the blog one night on an out of town job and since then I have published over 100 articles. This contains various topics mainly dealing with common money themes as well as minor ones on agriculture.
I almost dropped blogging towards the end of last year and I am glad and happy to say that I did not. This year, I am even more determined to start doing the things that will enable me to live out my purpose. Starting with trying to attain financial freedom myself as well help others achieve theirs.
So as I end this article today, I am happy to announce that I officially declare myself as a financial freedom “activist”. Watch me over the next couple of years as I pay my debt off ( which is a house that I currently own – as we speak, owe the bank N$352 694). So far I have paid the bank 10 installments and I am confident it will take me less than 4 years to clear this debt.
I also hereby declare that I will continue to start living a more sustainable lifestyle and the most environmental free life I can possibly imagine. This includes reducing my carbon impact by recycling and minimizing wastage as well as growing my own food in an urban setting.
Does the FIRE movement inspire you? Does living an environmental lifestyle sounds like a plan? If so join the movement and let us engage and share the success stories on this platform.
What is your purpose? What is your vision? And remember where there is no vision, the people will perish.
